Red Bee won a creative pitch to create a brand identity for Russia’s first national children’s channel from the state run network VGTRK.

The Challenge

Our challenge was to create a channel brand that would appeal to both 4 year olds and 17 year olds - not an easy task! We also had the added pressure that the channel was the brainchild of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Solution

Our brand strategy team devised the positioning: “a world of discovery for hungry minds.” We wanted to give the young viewers an insight into the wider world by making learning an entertaining experience. From this we developed two individual but complimentary creative routes. We created eight live action sequences entitled ‘Knowledge Plus’ consisting of a range of intriguing factual discoveries from everyday life. We then created fifteen animated shorts called ‘Factually Fun’ which featured fascinating and possibly unknown facts about anything from electric eels to the power of your sneeze. Both creative routes were enhanced with a lively and engaging on-screen presentation system in Cyrillic script that provides consistent navigation for the channel’s viewers.

The Result

The work was extremely well received by the client and went on to win the award for best film or TV graphics at the British Animation Awards in 2008.
