Mazhavil Manorama

Red Bee Media helped the Malayala Manorama Group to extend their media portfolio with a colourful identity for their new entertainment channel.

The Challenge

The Malayala Manorama Group, based in Kerala, is one of the most successful publishing groups in India. Following Red Bee’s successful branding of Manorama News in 2006, now the number 1 news channel in the state, the Malayala Manorama Group approached us again to create the branding for their new entertainment channel, Mazhavil Manorama.

The Solution

Building on the successful Manorama brand we had developed previously, we started with the iconic M logo. With Mazhavil meaning rainbow and with Kerala being synonymous with its famous backwaters, we filled the M logo with an array of swirling coloured inks to reflect the vibrancy and energy of the channel.

The idents depict familiar scenes of life in Kerala, from a child riding on a scooter with his mother to parading elephants, each scene created purely from the different coloured swirls of ink contained within the logo.

The Result

Following the successful launch in October 2011, Mazhavil Manorama has already climbed to the No 2 channel in those segments that matter most to advertisers. This is an incredible achievement in an already crowded market.
